How to Create a New Vision for Your Career (Part III)
This is the third and final share in our three-part New Visions series to help you begin to re-imagine what’s possible in your career. We want to help you take steps in the direction of a career that is meaningful and fulfilling. Something you take ownership of and craft with intention.
Now that you have a sense of what could be possible, we want to help you take actual steps toward that possibility.
Whether you’re seeking a promotion, about to retire, starting out, or ready to start a business. Follow along in this series and take these steps BEFORE making any big decisions. This is meant to help you get unstuck and inspired in your career.
Part Three: 4 Steps to Creating New Ways of Working for Yourself
Now for the hard part.
That's right, what we've done until now was foundational and certainly not easy, but this next step is the big thing. This is where change really happens in your career and in your life. Because change can’t happen without action.
This is about creating new ways of working for yourself. And it requires you do to three things.
It starts with reviewing everything you've done over the past few days. Then choose three or four elements of your ideal day that most resonate with you.
Next, take some time to identifying three potential ways to get from where you are now to the elements of your ideal day that most resonate with you. Some of those shifts, some of those solutions, will be easy to implement, say, starting your day with a coffee. Others will take more time, like buying a cabin in the woods. So, what we're doing here is figuring out how we get there, finding solutions. I encourage you to identify three different ways to get to where you want to be with your career and life based on your ideal day.
Now, I want you to choose one solution to focus on. You can come back to the others, but choose one to focus on for now and make a list of the steps you need to take.
Finally, this is the most important step. Once you've made that list, I want you to open your calendar and each week for the next 2 months, schedule time to take a step. It doesn't have to be every day, whatever feels doable to you and your current schedule.
And that’s it. Over the past few weeks you’ve clarified your values, explored what’s possible for your career, and started to put together an action plan to bring it to life. Will it be easy to implement, not all of it. But at least now you know what you may want.
IF things are still feeling hazy for you or you just need a bit more feedback and support, we designed our New Visions workshop to help you dive deeper in this work. You’ll leave with deeper levels of clarity and a full action plan for the next phase of your life. If you’re ready to make change, we’re ready to help you.
Join us on October 22 for our live online New Visions workshop.
As you move forward beyond this series and take action to bring the career of your dreams to life, know that the road won’t be perfect or easy, but it will be yours and it will be a road worth walking.
